Custom Sculptural Park Bench
These six benches are in the Eastlake district of Seattle between Louisa and Roanoke Streets on Franklin Avenue. They are part of a public art project that Jennifer Weddermann was awarded through competition in 1999. The benches include one sweetheart style bench, and they are constructed of forged steel with a clear powder coating for protection. The concept for the benches was to accentuate the intermingling of adults and children on the site, so there are playful and accessible aspects to the benches as well as simple utilitarian function. Another part of the project was the construction of two concrete and steel chess tables with seating on the site. The city of Seattle owns the street furnishings and the Eastlake Community Council maintains the site which is a "green street" between the recently renovated TOPSchool and Rogers Playfield."
