Ruston Benches
The Ruston Business District hired Weddermann Architecture to design and fabricate four benches for their district, to expand on their branding and develop their streetscape for pedestrians. The benches are in production and will be installed by the end of summer 2014. The waterfront city’s nautical references in their public art, the partnership with the Point Ruston development who uses an octopus in their street furnishings, and the business district’s logo of gears led to the design motif. One of the benches will fall on the City of Tacoma’s property and will have a bicycle rack component on the back. Of the three to be located in Ruston, one of the benches will be a flip back style to allow for views of the water and back to the city, as the user prefers.
