Gwinwood Lodge

The new McKinnon Lodge at Gwinwood Retreat Center replaces the historic lodge lost to fire in 2023 with a contemporary facility that celebrates its forested setting on Hicks Lake. Designed as the heart of the retreat center, the lodge accommodates dining, meetings, and special events while navigating complex shoreline and environmental permitting requirements. Whole-tree columns, natural wood, and stone finishes create a warm, durable building that reflects its natural surroundings. The project also includes a rebuilt dock, improved parking, accessibility upgrades, and enhanced fire egress. Salvaged elements from the original lodge were incorporated into the design, honoring Gwinwood's history while creating a resilient facility for future generations.
